How You Think Determines Your Attitude – Have the Best Possible

 

 

How to think vs. what to think… imperative to distinguish!

how you think is more important that what you thinkIn times of tension and tumult, here’s how you think better… examine everything without bias, just consider the options and choose the prudent path. When you are diligent and vulnerable, the truth reveals itself. You might learn something new about yourself or the world that will change your perspective. In order to learn to get along, humans have had to engage paradigm shifts, seeing the exact same things with different eyes. If you’d like a lot of eyes to look through, there’s a great exercise here. Isolation can have benefits beyond your imagination.

We have attributed this quote to Goethe – “Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it; Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.” When, in fact, it was inspired by Goethe though written by an Irish poet named John Anster, though he wrote, ‘What you can do’ instead.

Other Anster renditions include:
“What you can do, or dream you can, begin it,
Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.
Only engage, and then the mind grows heated, —
Begin it, and the work will be completed!”

I’m not sure how it happened, but FB seemed to think Fred’s face looked like me and Markus went with it at the time. What a randomly generated honor. Time to transform to that ‘quantum coagulator’ it seems. Attention, intention and action. How you think about the former leads to better management of your mind and response to your environment.

Let’s bring that home for a moment. Right now the conversations you have at home are extremely important for the successful navigation of trying times. Converting the fearful and panicky internal feelings and thoughts to those of the salient points for transforming chaos to order is imperative. I found a great blog called Personal Tao that addresses these issues and I’ll highlight the salient points. When many are seeking solace, a few step up to provide guidance with balance and centeredness.

A simple (initial) list of guidelines for living in times of Chaos.

  • Reinforce local community. Being healthy and active in your local community helps you weather unexpected changes, shortages and those who would try to take advantage of you in a weakened state.
  • Don’t overextend yourself. If you overextend yourself, chaotic changes will catch you off guard
  • Be patient and be aware. Chaotic times are neither good nor bad: good and bad are human morality statements. Chaotic times are times of great change. With great change come opportunities that are equally beneficial as they are earth-shaking. Patience allows you to pace your endeavors to use your resources gracefully and with awareness timed to your intuition you then decide which opportunities are indeed positive options rather than negative situations.
  • Buy and work towards quality over cheap/fast. Times of chaos stress out people, materials, and social systems. In times of chaos things break down, people make things more cheaply, and unexpected shortages will occur. Make sure your work is of quality so it lasts through the time of chaos, make sure you invest in tools and materials which are of quality so that your material tools won’t fail at critical times.
  • Invest in personal time, keeping in shape and helping those around you to stay in shape. The stress in times of chaos will push us to our limits. Take care of yourself, family and friends so you remain strong and can flow with the unexpected changes that will occur.
  • Predict nothing! By definition times of chaos are when everything shifts to being unpredictable. Be open to change rather than trying to jigger change or outguessing it. By being aware and flowing with the change, you will more gracefully move with what happens over than trying to outguess all the random shifts that will occur.

Orderly times are more logical; chaotic times are more intuitive

How you think makes the difference between stressful and sublime moments

Sublime – of such excellence, grandeur, or beauty as to inspire great admiration or awe.

So always remember the steps of Personal Transformation are:

  1. Acceptance
  2. Awareness
  3. Practices to explore one’s nature. Play is a critical part of any transformation. Seriously, play is about testing and exploring possibility. When you are transforming, you are changing, becoming something new. If you don’t play while in the middle of transformation.. then chances are you will revert to what you already were, since you didn’t take the time to play and work out new options of being. The problem is when a person gets older and yet gets caught in a crisis or transformation…. their adult shape and society: forces them to forget the most important aspects of life. The exploration of play to become more.
  4. repeat 1-3 in several iterations (which equals patience)
  5. Relaxation into self
  6. You are now in a place where you worked and released most of the issues holding you back.
  7. Pause and perform an evaluation of your progress, if you are not done, then repeat steps 1 – 5 again. Please note: Never try to solve all your problems at once. Otherwise, new problems will creep in to fill the void. Step 4 is critical since it allows a person to process their evolution in smaller increments of change. Move ahead with yourself in wonder and enjoyment. If done well it takes roughly two years to do steps 1-5 with several iterations and ten years to become a master of your own life.
    However, this path I teach is deeply patient and very Taoist: most people will choose just to grab what they see someone else doing and run with that. Not many people risk taking the time, two to ten years, to explore their life deeply since the unknown scares them.

So don’t assume that chaotic times are bad times. It’s up to us on how to use everything to grow. Chaotic times offer the opportunity of new options. Such times open the doorway to transformation. How you use the energy of chaotic times is also a choice about your own personal growth.

As a parent, you are a leader in your home. How you think determines what you think. As a community member, you are a leader in your community. As a planetary citizen, your are a leader in the world. Whether Goethe or Anster, the quote is sublime… “Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it; Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.”

 

What about a Soular Revolution?

I posted a short video on the aspects of a soular revolution the other day, and in multiple places just to see what kind of response it would get. It’s probably why I lost some more ‘friends’ and that certainly was not surprising. I’m a little too weird for some to comprehend and I’m okay with that, though I attempt to make sense common toward a unifying experience.

A comment about ‘having all the answers’ led to ‘asking better questions’ which led to the assertion that the ‘key’ is to gather and analyze more data, to locate more basic and workable data. That’s all great and makes sense in developing intelligence. What kind of intelligence are we after, though? Do we want it to be actionable?

Here’s the rub… is the data inside or outside? That simple question throws the mind into a quandary. Data, like statistics, can only offer inference or trends based on the ability to ‘read’ it correctly. Do we start with a premise and seek data to support it or analyze data to see if it offers some evidence we may not have seen yet?

The inner/soul experience is quite different from the outer/mental display of data. It is said by some that the inner data produces the outer display, through some mechanism we cannot comprehend yet have noted its probability through a kind of scientific method that looks at repeating patterns/processes instead of distinctly repeatable results.

Analytics and metrics are mechanisms we created to deconstruct and monitor processes so we can determine effectivity, right? Observation of data can only take place with the data that has been collected. Very few analyses of soular activity, let alone a soular revolution, have ever been done, except in the display of ‘spiritual’ texts and/or accounts written by experiencers.

Individual accounts are as varied as snowflakes, yet they are all snowflakes (from the same Source) and offer deeper awareness through observation and questions toward revealing consistent patterns. Synchronicities are patterns indicating deeper connectivity, but who monitors them so profusely as to supply any kind of real data? What kind of life would that one live?

Is workable data akin to a materialist mindset or its antonym, a spiritualist mindset? Are the relative results felt or thought? Are they intuited or injected? If everything is connected, wouldn’t we be able to trust the inner above the outer when responding to questions and supplying ‘data’ for analysis? As we fine-tune our mechanisms and technology, we also fine-tune our awareness and find balance in polarities.

If we are smart, imho, we’ll rely more on natural communication systems, those built into our holistic experiential framework (body/mind/spirit/soul complex as a soular revolution of sorts… spin on the Law of One) and learn how to develop them further. So far we’ve been distracted and jerked around by all kinds of outer circumstances that often are associated with chronic trauma.

Though we may not be aware of the chronic trauma, its subtle and profound affects leave us distanced and disturbed rather than connected and congruent. Those who have recognized the results of chronic trauma begin to heal and lead others to do so. That is the work inner awareness of self and the connection with that point of light inside that links us with the true Giver of Data.

What does it mean to truly be human? Do we have those internal communication networks (body/mind/spirit/soul) or are we putting our faith and trust in outer circumstances and the ‘truth’ told by those we don’t even know and for reasons we do not understand? What kind of choices are best in finding ways to create a world that works for all of us?

The following technique is not to be taken lightly, because it is the beginning of a mental-spiritual experience that will allow YOU to KNOW YOURSELF. By this, it is meant that YOU, without the aid of a teacher or an assistant of any kind, ( after a few preliminary exercises) can bring into your physical consciousness your entire past – your incarnations on this planet, your experiences before you came to this planet; in fact, you can see for yourself everything you have experienced since your spirit was released from the Creator.

This designation, “Multi- Level Awareness,” is the correct nomenclature – a direct translation of its designation throughout more  solar  systems  and  galaxies than the present awareness of mankind on Earth under stands.

The technique, “Multi- Level Awareness,” is simple. There is nothing you can add to it to make  it  work better or quicker . It works with every one.

  1. Make a person comfortable. Have the person remove h, is shoes and  lie down. Clasp his legs,  one  at a time, just above the knee and manipulate your hands downward, stopping at the knee briefly to make certain the knee is relaxed; then rubbing on, down to the ankle and bend the ankle; then  massage  the foot,  and  then the toes briefly and vigorously. Repeat this manipulation quickly. Next, place the palm of your hand on the person’s forehead, and with little pressure, move  the skin of the forehead up and down and sideways  for  a few seconds. This relaxation process should not be overdone.
  2. Ask the person to close his eyes and after a brief moment, ask him to become a few inches taller  by  al lowing himself to stretch  out  through  the  bottom  of  his feet. Then say to him, “Tell  me  as  soon  as  you  have done this.” When he says that he has  accomplished  this, pause  a  few  seconds  and   say,   “Go   back   to   normal size. Tell me as soon as you have done “

Then, ask him to repeat the exercise, only the second time ask him to become  “a  foot”  taller.  “Tell  me  as soon as you have done this.” When he agrees, pause again and tell him to go  back  to normal  size. “Tell  me as soon as you have done  this.”  Repeat  the  foot tall routine again. Each time ask him to tell you  when he has accomplished the exercise.

Now, go to the other end  of  the  body. “Become a few inches taller by extending yourself out through the top of your head. Tell me when you have  done  this.” Then back to normal size. Then, do a foot taller  three times through the head. Always  ask  him  to  tell  you when he is done.

The next step requires further exercising . “Now, this time extend yourself through the head, face, body, arms, legs and feet. In other words, blow yourself up just like a balloon. Tell me as soon as you have done this.” Then go back to normal size. All of the time, through out these exercises, be jovial and keep your voice firm and convincing, yet be ready to laugh, and keep the person going quickly and smoothly through these preliminaries. Once he has done them well, there is never a need to repeat them.

Next, tell him to blow up like a balloon again, only much larger this time. When he tells you he had done this, ask him to go quickly and stand in front of the building where he lives. “Tell me when you are there.” As soon as he says so, start him talking.  Ask  him  to see this and that, and to describe what he sees. Tell  him to look for, one at a time, the door, door knob, windows, walkways, trees, shrubs, marks  of  any  kind. After he sees and  describes to you, these objects, tell him to, “Go quickly and stand on the roof of the building and look down into the road (or yard) in front Tell me as soon as you are there.” Ask him to see and describe such objects as cars, road, trees, etc. When this is completed, tell him to go about 500 feet up  into the air and look dawn. ( One in a hundred may  object  at this point but remind  him  quickly  that  he is still safe in the room.) Then repeat the request. “Tell me as soon as you are there.” Ask him to see what he can observe and report it to you. Keep him talking.

The person may tell you throughout this phase of outdoor work that he is “imagining things,” but remind him gently that this is an exercise in awareness and continue as if he had said nothing.

  1. After he has described to you things he sees from this advantage of altitude, ask him whether it is daytime or nighttime. When he tells you it is one or the other, ask him to tell you why he thinks    He  will say something like, “It is daytime because everything is light and I can see just  as  if  it  were  daylight, so  it must  be  daytime.”  Or, “It is night because l see street lights and house lights,”  etc.  Or,  “It  is sort  of  twilight, you  know,  just  like  after  the  sun  has  gone  down.”  If it is night time or twilight  in his vision, ask  him  to  make it  daytime  –  bright  as  sunlight.  “Tell  me  as  soon  as you have done this.” Then ask him to tell you why  he thinks  it  is  daytime.  Keep  him  talking,  talking  all  of the time. If it was daytime  to  begin  with,  ask  him  to make it night; and then  ask  him  why  he  thinks  it  is night.  Turn  the  days  into  nights  and  back  again   at least three times,  but  be  certain  that  you  finish  this phase by having it daytime – a very bright sunny day.

Then, quickly ask him, “Who  is  making  it  night and day?” Most will quickly answer, “I am!” If he hesitates more than ten seconds, ask him, “Are YOU making it night and day?” He will agree. It is very important that he understands that he is causing this change.

  1. “Now, are you still high in the air?” The answer will be, “Yes.” “Please keep the scene very bright. Come back to earth i another lifetime that you lived many years ago. Come down quickly as you go back in time; bring your feet down quickly and firmly,  but  gently, and stand on the ground. Tell me as soon as you are there.”

Watch the person’s face. As soon as there is eye movement under the lids,  tell  him, “Please look down at your feet and tell me what you are wearing on your feet.”

The person is now experiencing a good vision of a previous life.

Remind him frequently to, “Look out through your eyes and listen through your ears.” Ask, “What are you  wearing  on the lower  part  of  your body?” Wait for descriptions, but keep the person talking. The more talk the better he will see in the beginning. Insist that the person do only what you tell him to do and answer your  questions;  remembering  to  keep  the questions in some semblance of chronological order. Move the person onward in time – skip a day, a week, month or year in his lifetime, but keep him  moving and talking.

At the end of the  lifetime,  ask  the person  to  go  to  an earlier lifetime by requesting, “Come down in an earlier lifetime – look down at your feet and tell me what you are wearing on them.”

At the end of the second or third lifetime you have run through, ask him to “die” and follow through the “death,” asking, “What happens next?” (when you do not have specific questions). No matter what he reports, do not question the validity. This is new material for people to understand. After you have been a few people through several lifetimes, you will understand that this material is valid. When he has  run  incidents between his lives, ask him to go back and find his present parents, from the first time he saw them until after he was born.

Ask questions, questions, questions.

When you discontinue the running process at any time, ask the person, “Do you see any need to continue at this time?” Let him decide when to stop.

When you continue with this person at a later time, make him comfortable (but no need to rub), tell him to turn the lights on inside, and go quickly back to where he left off last time.

After three to  five hours  of “coaching” or assisting  a person, he should be quite ready to run himself. It takes a person a little time to learn to ask himself questions. As soon as  he  can  ask  himself  questions, he is ready to go alone. If he reports back  to you  that he is “stuck,” run him a little more, but make him ask the questions.

Practice is of the essence. Soon an entire lifetime can be seen in a few minutes with all senses in force.

There are no wasted words in the above. Failure to succeed is failure to follow the  instructions.  It is fun to run and to be run. Change off. The more you run, the better coach you become. Do a lot of both.

Do We Really Know How to Love and Be Loved?

Perhaps this post will be misunderstood and I’ll get some blow-back from the usual uneducated and/or misinformed folks. I’m okay with that. This is how we learn. I’ve known some Imams (definition: any of various rulers that claim descent from Muhammad and exercise spiritual and temporal leadership over a Muslim region) who are some of the most caring and kind people I know. There is no need for fear, period.

I participated in an Interfaith gathering a couple of years ago that included exemplary leaders – Imam, Rabbi, Hindu, Christian and Indian. It was obvious we all had the same goal of honoring each other and everyone in the spirit of unity.

There is a need to learn how to get along if we are ever going to experience a peaceful world that supports life for everyone. Perhaps when we can get beyond the perceived religions separation, we can learn to behave like real human beings as one people on one planet, sharing resources like grown-ups.

As is mentioned in the video, it isn’t the ‘law’ but the people who misinterpret or even try to ‘make’ laws based on their own bias. There is no ‘God-given’ rights to doing harm to anyone or anything. That is all man’s doing through their false and misguided belief systems.

All books written by man to justify their choices. It has absolutely nothing to do with LOVE. We all, by our most basic nature, want to love and be loved. We choose not to behave that way.

That is why we must choose to honor the essence of all teachings… to love and be loved. To stand in that truth is tantamount to changing how we behave toward each other. How we example that is what inspires others to do the same.

Perhaps I’m an outlier in that way, I literally gave up my life to know truth and the result was a gift of an experience of that feeling, to know what real unconditional love was like, and to bring that back into this world and live accordingly.

Perhaps the Harvest Full Moon effect…

Transformational Life Coaching is a lifestyle that continually causes me to go deep, especially in the mornings when I have my first cup of coffee. It is a time for reflection, considering the implications of my Zen Calendar quotes for the day and sharing tasty tidbits that flow from my fingertips with little effort.

So the stream of consciousness this morning has led to an interesting response I made to a post elsewhere. As I finished it became apparent (at least in my own mind) that it would be good to share here. Some questions were asked, but they seemed cursory still and I offered some food for thought. Good points were made, but I felt critical questions were still not being asked, so I offered some.

What is the depth of our evolving experience the leads us to our next evo-leap? How do we explore our own consciousness with respect to the awareness that it is such a small sliver of a much greater reality? Subjective views are many and demonstrate the effects of long-term exposure to limiting belief systems, mostly based in polarizing conditions that have been presented through the various systems throughout history.

We have little understanding of universal laws and order, yet we also acknowledge that they exist. How do we transcend our limited and limiting thinking about this greater reality of which we are only beginning to explore, let alone understand? Many attempt to offer answers yet, imho, there are questions about our nature, our design and our capabilities that go unasked.

So many experiences are nonlinear and non-local, which we have no solid foundations to understand yet. The process of time, which the intelligence we seek to understand seems to have a greater command, gives us the opportunity to distill and observe from salient moments. Some of those moments, in my experience, have led to profound engagements in realms of consciousness rarely available and to-date remain inarticulable for the most part.

No fear is elicited, yet the frequency of said moments requires the release of all attachments to the physical form. That is nearly impossible for most experiencers. I suppose once one has an NDE (for lack of a better), it becomes a little easier, but by no means without some resistance. Opportunities are offered and doors open based on a couple of things; questions (after certain specifics of purpose are conveyed) and a willingness to ascend (a sensation that occurs during the process).

Regardless of how we think about the connection, imho, it is about our relation-ships no matter the material. How we relate to our being, our knowing and our particular personal and collective growth in understanding our consciousness. How have we been able to condense into these forms that cart us around from place to place? What drives us inward for answers? What drives us to explore our outer reality in an effort to find reflections and resonance from and with those inner discoveries? Hmmm….. 😉

Holistic Imperative?

Openness and vulnerability are often misunderstood. I may be completely off track here, but there seems to be a reticence toward openness and vulnerability across theperspection dynamics of human relationships. The concerns for acceptance, safety and security appear to be at the root of this resistance. I don’t think I’m alone in this regard as I’ve had many private discussions that support this observation.

How do we move beyond the boundaries of self-inflicted separation when we profess to believe that a holistic perspective is imperative in the world today?

From corporate conundrums in workplace learning and performance to political postulates for serving the needs of society to religious rhetoric meant to free our souls’ purpose to manifest in our daily lives… it’s a full stop when simple and obvious questions arise. The truth seems to be always less than full disclosure.

What is?

How do we first find and then share truth without spending decades or millennia arguing about it? Can we just acknowledge ‘what is’? Great question… what is?

We, as a world, are faced with some very important choices as we seek to transform our past profit-driven and less than human friendly decisions into creating a world that makes sense. Life-friendly choices are muddled by cash flow projections, personal liabilities, professional limitations and excuses for not acting in accordance with what we profess to believe – our ability to act in love and with mindfulness.

Openness and vulnerability are key elements of asking poignant and powerful questions.

Too often that love is conditional, with expectations that are neither spoken or fulfilled because of our inability to articulate the wisdom we hold as spiritual beings in human form. There isn’t one religion that denies that we are indeed manifestations of some greater intelligence. So where is that intelligence showing up now?

Leadership

Across the gamut of world government and resource management (human and material) we are experiencing a call for transformation toward something more harmonious, a movement toward telling the truth and working with ‘what is’ rather than hidden agendas and excuses for irresponsible actions.

What I find confusing is the apparent indignation of ‘authorities’ who we’ve looked to for leadership. Instead of revealing a reality that we can all agree is true, there are countless backroom meetings to figure out how to subvert the population into a manageable mass that remains uninformed and even unconscious to their own capability and potential as human beings. This behavior completely denies the human spirit and the possibility of acknowledging that we are spiritual beings at all.

So how do we transform our world even when our leadership is resistant to the changes that are obviously needed to guide our planetary civilization forward?

Answers

I don’t have all the answers. I may not have any of them. But, I suspect that many across the world are getting fed up with being diagnosed, labeled and accused of being unrealistic. I also perceive that the multitudes of finger-pointers and whistle blowers are affecting the population, but not necessarily in the best way possible.

Exposing the truth often causes a rise in anger and frustration that, unchecked, can lead to even more catastrophic behavior. The nature of attention commits energy to flow toward the object(s) of focus. We know that well now, especially with the proliferation of the Law of Attraction. So far, it seems the focus is still on personal satisfaction.

Questions

  • Where is our focus?
  • Are we looking outside of ourselves for validation?
  • Do we look to the skies or on the ground for answers?
  • Do we look deep within for help from a higher source?
  • Do we propose new possibilities for using our skill sets to better mankind?

New Era

We hear of a new age of enlightenment, a new era of environmental and social responsibility. How is it happening? It certainly appears that the folks who should be leading the way are not. But why?

We could point fingers at many who don’t want to play nice and practice the ‘golden rule’ as this nation supposedly was established to do. Would that solve the problems? It sure would make us feel better, venting our rage at those who we put in office to do the right thing… right? I think we have a failure to communicate what that really is now.

So, what are the possibilities the folks like Bernie Sanders are introducing for the innumerable time? We’ve heard the same rhetoric for decades. That’s not to say what those folks are presenting isn’t necessary. We’ve just heard it all before and nothing has been done. Our economy tanked a few short years ago, again, and big business seems to be running the show even more now.

Okay, just a bit of finger pointing to make sense common as an example. Companies like Monsanto (easy pick because they are front and center) are being banned in other countries because of their practices, yet still report record profits that the pay very little tax, if any, on here at home. They even have temporary immunity from any backlash from their GMO (genetically modified organism) or GE (genetically engineered) products.

People, places and things are shuffled around with light speed, or so we think, in order to fend off or prepare for the restoration of America. There seems to be almost a moss panic swirling in the undercurrent of the political machine, especially with the next election coming up and candidates preparing to launch campaigns. Clean elections are a misnomer as he/she with the most backing and air time most often wins. Obama seemed to have a good attitude and message going in, transparency, and it sure has brought things to light. However, his tenure as Chief may not have had the hopeful results.

The reality is most of us have no idea what it is like to function at that level, nor do we really want to, yet we sure can abstain or complain when things don’t go how we think they should. What can we do about that? Well, we can get involved. Most folks avoid politics because it’s been labeled a ‘dirty business’ in the hearts of most Americans. We can extrapolate that from the lack of participation and the comments around the water cooler. Can we change that attitude? Perhaps, but is going to take a massive metanoia – change of mind.

We can start by just simply doing the right things locally, getting involved with the communities in which we live. Sure, it will take time away from some of the things we  currently do… or maybe it might just give Socratesus something to do instead of ‘chillin’ out’ after work or getting mesmerized by the newest video games or reality TV shows. Oh, I understand we work hard and deserve to have our free time. Where has that gotten us? That’s a lot of ego, eh? Why not turn ego to wego… together we can facilitate the change we desire. Like Gandhi said, ‘Be the change you wish to see in the world.’

Now, I’m not professing we get all religious or spiritual. That hasn’t really worked either now, has it? What I am suggesting is the we consider stepping out of the house and getting to know what is going on in the neighborhood. Is it a beautiful day in the neighborhood? If it isn’t, then what do you see can be done to make it so? Perhaps that is a good place for you to start. What you see needs to be done might be the perfect thing for you to do. Maybe others see the same thing and the agreement you’ve reached, of _____ needing to be done and you’ve decided to do something about it, is what will inspire others to get involved.

We can start small, with what is right in front of our faces. A small group of people with a common agenda, goals and objectives can get things done in magnificent and often larger than life ways. What have you got to lose? Oh, I know…. We’ve got liabilities, limitations and excuses to lose. That’s what happens to challenge when it becomes change.

Facilitation or Leadership?

Organizing any kind of concerted effort to implement a strategic plan involves people, places and things, right? Those are the consistent foundational components of any mission and vision for virtually any purpose, might I also add purpose virtual as well. How and/or what must be done in order to maximize results?

Today, those results often include some kind of community, environmental or social responsibility. We’re crafting a better world on the fly. Would you agree?

Being uptight or loosey goosey depends on our style of administration – keeping things in order, flowing smoothly and managing the process upheavals appropriately. Or does it? We hear the term ‘best practices’ thrown about with references to this or that person or material, yet is it ever really applied?

For example, Senge introduced the Learning Organization concept and initiatives in the 90s. Although it was lauded as break-through best practices, is it ubiquitous today? Far from it, although those organizations that applied the principles grew with gusto in the marketplace.

Another example: Gardner introduced ‘Multiple Intelligences‘ in the early 80s and was lauded as the next great advance in being able to administer the educational process with student-centric capabilities. Today, those profound leaps in understanding learning have still not been applied ubiquitously in American educational systems.

Are the two examples that of a lack of facilitation or leadership? That may be an odd question. Just pause and reflect on it for a moment. What is the difference? Does is have to do with decisions and implementation or a ground-swell of support and inclusion without direction or mandate?

Over the years we’ve been inundated with so many leadership books and strategies that we often forget it’s people who get things done, regardless of leadership. We know there are formal and informal chains of command, right? Where does facilitation for the benefit of the goal, mission or vision fall in its purest form? It would seem the most effective leaders are more inclined to be good, if not great, facilitators.

So what does it take to be a good or great facilitator? Those qualities make the difference in mediocre or great organizations. In today’s environment it would seem the great organizations also include some kind of concern for life in general.

Those examples show up in B-corps and employee-driven companies that have pride in their internal and external community, environmentally and socially responsible organizations that put people and service above profit, although profit does keep the doors open.

So, faced with the challenge of change – making the world a better place that we can live sustainably – what are some of the better questions we can ask as facilitators and leaders? Are we asking them or just keeping them to ourselves?

How do we really do business today? Is that a fair question? I’ve noticed an increasing amount of alliances across the gamut of ‘industry’ today. Those alliances seem to have a variety of visions and missions, often relative to the garnering of market share and stock price. Competition is fierce. Collaboration amongst cohorts and peer groups is on the rise.

An ‘alliance’ is defined as: a union or association formed for mutual benefit, especially between countries or organizations. What kinds of alliances get the most attention these days? One that I find is getting increasing attention is that of B-Corps or Benefit Corporations.

As of March 2014, there are 990 “certified B Corporations” across 60 industries in 27 countries.

The B-Lab certification is a third party standard requiring companies to meet social sustainability and environmental performance standards, meet accountability standards, and to be transparent to the public according to the score they receive on the assessment. B-Lab certification applies to the whole company across all product lines and issue areas. For-profits of all legal business structures are eligible for certification.

Relations and relationships are expanding from the old-world view of being associated with humans to a more expanded (indigenous) view of the inclusion of Nature – the Earth and all its inhabitants, human, plant and animal. Perhaps this ‘new’ view is one that we’ve been missing for some time, the result of which has been the ‘unintentional’ devastation of ecosystems and the pollution of our air, earth and water – not to mention humans. Is it time for a reexamination of how we do business?

Of course the idealistic and perhaps unrealistic perception is that we can change. The notion of change is frightening from many perspectives, mostly from the fear of loss of something we think we has provided security or a way of life to date. First World countries have standards of living that Third World countries only dream about today. Second World (a term rarely used today) refers to the former Soviet Union and China, which have grown to First World county status as they’ve incorporated capitalism. Unbridled capitalism is probably the root of our collective problems caused by the poor fiscal and social management of resources.

How do we change? The introduction of change management philosophy has focused on the induction of what appear to be ‘holistic’ systems now; the view that each component of a system affects the whole, a type of synergy if you will. This new ‘strategy’ is being taught across the gamut of business schools, first introduced in the last century to the corporate world through the work of Peter Senge and others. ‘Learning Organizations’ became the goal for maximizing resources.

Speaking of maximizing resources, just a few years ago a long-time respected authority, the International Organization for Standardization (known for the ISO 9000 series manufacturing standards), turned its vision toward Social Responsibility and commissioned representatives from over 90 countries to draft the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standards. It took nearly 10 years to complete and offers one of the most exquisite examples of an alliance of collaborators.

The ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standards was released on 1 November 2010. Its goal is to contribute to global sustainable development, by encouraging business and other organizations to practice social responsibility to improve their impacts on their workers, their natural environments and their communities. The difference in these ‘new’ standards is that there is no ‘certification’ process; intentional action is the only requisite. Beyond the resistance to change is great potential, possibilities that exist to truly change the way we do business. The challenge is that the request for change and restructuring has to come from both directions – top-down and bottom-up. There are no more silos. We’re all farmers, tending the new crop of corporate standards and social responsibility. Isn’t it time?

In contemplating the roll out of a change in the organizational structure of a country there are some very simple, albeit challenging, processes involved. Traditionally movements stem from an individual or small collective of dedicated individuals. Today, many are capable and willing to initiate change themselves. Across the country, small groups of people are gathering to share their skillsets as they collaborate toward building better communities and eventually a nation, perhaps even a world.

As a strategist with a background in project and organizational management, I’ve had a passion and penchant for putting people, places and things together to do some pretty cool stuff. I’ve had some success in a variety of industries: aerospace; building, road and bridge construction; education; entertainment; special events and more. I’ve found happy people with the right tools and training get more done with less supervision.

I’m going to dive in to talking about the nuts and bolts of progressive change management. From an organizational standpoint, it takes clusters or groups of dedicated individuals strewn across the country with a focus on collaborative processes and results. Those clusters or nodes are connected through a network, whether intranet or internet, and able to access profiles, portfolios and projects that combine co-working, complementary skillsets and even incubator-type environments. As diverse as the playing field may be, like the 12-sector co-creation wheel used by the Humanity’s Team and Thrive organizations, the capacity for organizing local groups rests in the self-initiated, those who are driven to find, facilitate and support practical mysticism in their local communities. I say ‘practical mysticism’ because the process embraces awareness, conscious behaviors within community action. The experience is sometimes akin to the ‘Law of Attraction’ on steroids as people, places and things seem to magically appear to those who are actively and selflessly serving the cause.

To date there have been numerous online and on-ground communities that have been attempting to gather like-minded folks together, but the obvious self-centered activity seems to be driving the bus. The notion of leadership seems to be stuck in last century ideas of competition, control and submission. Heretics are still not tolerated when the status quo needs the bar raised or their heart-drives upgraded. Every question needs to be better than the last and they all have answers that guide progress, some of them ripping apart the operating system in place.

I coined a term over a decade ago that seemed perfect in relationship to describing the ultimate structure of project management: jobarchy – the job is the boss and everyone wins. Personal andchange management hidden agendas have no place in the process and impede progress. There is no Ego without WEgo in such instances as the progress occurs at the speed of surrender to it. The synergy of best practices across multiple platforms is facilitated by leaders who practice this understanding, ultimately being able to combine authority and conviction that guides by example.

Result in Action

What we are ultimately seeking to do is facilitate a change in the power structure of our country, putting the people back in the picture instead of the corporatocracy and profit-driven agendas. How we do that is up to each one of us and our willingness to step up to the challenge. Fearlessness in the face of challenge is a key factor; not that we ignore the potential risks, but we develop plans and strategies that eliminate the potential risk by making them so profoundly logical that the sense made common naturally removes all concerns. That takes a lot of preparation, applying knowledge and understanding of the hard and soft skills of organizational management.

On a practical political no-nonsense level, the results are driven by developing support for those who (by their demonstration) have proven moral and ethical behavior beyond question in their communities. These proven vetted leaders, provided they are willing, are perfect to place in political positions in order to guide their communities and engage their constituents in making better decisions. Research and technology are key components of creating consistent and clear communication that can be shared across intelligence levels… making sense even more common.

Now we’re faced with creating the impetus for people to get involved; get out of their homes and join in the process.
